Plymouth County Jail Roster

The Plymouth County, Massachusetts Inmate Registry is a public resource that allows you to find out who is currently in custody at the county facility. PlymouthCourt.us helps locate publicly available information about current and recent inmates. Additional information can be obtained through the official Plymouth County website, by calling the sheriff's office, or by visiting the facility in person. The registry allows you to check an individual's custody status, view charges, and booking date. In Plymouth County, the county sheriff's office is responsible for inmate custody, which is an elected position, although the staff are state civil servants. The registry is regularly updated and posted on resources associated with the county sheriff.

Search Current Inmates in Plymouth Jail

To find information about a person in custody, use one of the methods below.

Online Search

  1. Go to PlymouthCourt.us to search for public court and correctional records.
  2. Enter the person's full legal name (last name and first name) or booking number, if known.
  3. Review the results — they usually include the name, booking date, charges, and custody status.

If the official sheriff's registry is available as a browsable list rather than having a separate search field, use the browser's "Find on Page" function (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) and enter the last name.

Phone Inquiry

Call the Plymouth County detention facility. The operator can confirm if a specific person is in custody if you provide the full legal name and date of birth. For emergencies, use the 911 line instead of the general facility number.

In-Person Visit

You can go directly to the lobby of the Plymouth County correctional facility. The visitor information window is usually open on business days.

To obtain additional public records from the county, you can submit a public records request through the official county portal.

Find Plymouth Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment a person is officially admitted to a correctional facility. It is the first document that records a person's custody.

During the booking process, the following data is generated:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of admission
  • Charges filed
  • Name of the arresting agency (e.g., Plymouth Police or State Police)
  • Mugshot and physical characteristics data

Access to booking records in Plymouth County can be obtained in several ways. The quickest is to check the online registry, which displays current inmates. If the record concerns a person who has already been released, it may not be available in the registry. In such cases, submit an official public records request — through the Plymouth City FOIA Direct portal or directly to the county sheriff's office.

Note: Not all booking details are public. Medical information, juvenile records, and certain investigative data may be restricted according to Massachusetts state laws.

Search the Plymouth Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The registry supports two main search methods.

By Last Name

Enter the person's last name in Latin script. Adding the first name will narrow the results if the last name is common. Some tips:

  • Check the spelling — one letter error can lead to empty results.
  • Try spelling variations if the last name has a hyphen or apostrophe (e.g., O'Brien vs OBrien).
  • Some systems support partial searches — enter only the first few letters of the last name.

By Booking Number

The booking number is the most accurate identifier. If you received it from a lawyer, police, or another source, enter it in full. The result should be a single record.

What to Do if the Search Yields No Results?

  1. Ensure the name is entered correctly — use the full legal name, not a nickname or abbreviation.
  2. The person may have already been released — the registry only displays those currently in custody.
  3. There may be a delay between the arrest and the record appearing in the registry. Try again later.
  4. Call the facility at 508-830-6200 for clarification.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Plymouth

The Plymouth County inmate registry is updated periodically throughout the day, but it is not a real-time system. There is usually a delay of several hours to one business day between the actual booking and the record appearing in the online registry.

Main limitations to consider:

  • Publication delay. A recently arrested person may not yet appear — the booking and data entry process takes time.
  • Record disappearance after release. When an inmate is released, their record is removed from the active registry. This is not an archive of all past bookings.
  • Data entry errors. Sometimes names or charges may be entered incorrectly, complicating the search.
  • Transfer. If a person is transferred to another state facility, they will disappear from the county registry.

For older records or information about individuals no longer in custody, submit a Plymouth County public records request. The Massachusetts Public Records Law (M.G.L. Chapter 66, Section 10) grants citizens the right to access government documents, although some categories of records may be excluded.

The registry is a tool for checking current custody status. It does not replace an official criminal record check and is not proof of guilt.
